Message from Mrs. Gabe Quiles-Colvin, School Social Worker:

All students are required by law to attend school every day. Parents and guardians of children who are of compulsory school age are responsible for their child's daily school attendance.  Attendance is one of the primary determinants of how a student performs in school. Many studies show a high correlation between academic achievement and a student's attendance in class.

"ALL RISE, PEER COURT IS NOW IN SESSION... "

Peer Court students are fully trained and ready to serve. They serve as a discipline board that determines consequences for certain offenses as an alternative to administrative and team consequences. Students serve as defense attorneys, judges, etc. Peer Court serves a dual purpose. Often the students who are referred to Court have other issues such as poor academics, organizational skills and difficult peer relationships. It's a great tool for offering assistance for those in need. The parents love it.

Peer Counseling:

Peer Counselors are here, there and everywhere helping their peers. The students have been trained in the elements of peer tutoring and are now tutoring students in all grade levels.

Reconnecting Youth Program with Memorial Healthcare System

The Reconnecting Youth Program is a school-based prevention program that targets at-risk youths who exhibit various behaviors such as substance use, aggression, poor academic performance, poor decision-making skills, and other behaviors that complicate students' ability to thrive within the classroom, in their homes, and in the larger community.  The program is free of cost and only available to 25 students.  If you are interested, please email Sharon Salas at svidaurre@mhs.net or contact your child's guidance counselor.
